The Sixty-One™

The green lens Sixty-One was probably the most common model from Renauld, and there were many differing variants. The most desirable was the straight-armed gold frame with narrow lens, with the ear clip version also popular. Next came the narrow and large framed silver versions, with straight and ear clip variants.

The Renauld Sixty-One was first introduced in 1961, and on the market throughout the 1960's until 1973.

Further below is a green-gold comparison page, featuring the two models side by side. Condition is critical with these glasses, as pitted frames, or screws that are not original, significantly impact the value.

It is interesting to note the erratic use of the Renauld crown logo on the bridge of the glasses and it is difficult to discern the reasoning behind these choices. The similarity of this brand icon with the Rolex logo could have led to the decision to cease its usage post 1966 (no evidence of any legal action has ever been uncovered).

These gold frames with the flexible shafts date back to pre-1965/66 and are relatively rare today in the collectors' marketplace. The green lenses are understood to be the best for protecting again sun rays, and the example shown is in the larger size.

Below there are shown two pairs of gold and green Sixty-Ones. Although the one looks bigger they are in fact identical in almost every respect except the crown on the bridge and the colour of the green lens.

The reason the Renauld look bigger is because they have been bent by a larger face.
